Honorary Degree Policy

Integrity, disclosure, and accountability.

Nature of the honor

An honorary degree recognizes distinguished service. It does not represent completion of coursework, examinations, academic credits, or an earned doctorate. It does not provide professional licensure, regulated employment, immigration benefits, or admission to another academic program.

Eligibility and evidence

Selection is based on exceptional, verifiable service connected to AURA’s religious and humanitarian mission. Wealth, political influence, celebrity status, or willingness to donate does not independently establish eligibility.

Committee and board review

A review committee examines each complete nomination, verifies material claims, identifies conflicts of interest, and makes a recommendation. The governing board has final authority. Conflicted reviewers must not participate in the decision.

Fees and donations

AURA does not sell honorary degrees. After formal approval, optional charges may apply for printing, framing, academic regalia, ceremony attendance, or courier service. These charges never influence selection.

Use of the distinction

Recipients must identify the recognition as “Honorary” or “Honoris Causa” whenever it is listed. It must not be represented as an earned academic degree or used to mislead employers, licensing bodies, government agencies, educational institutions, or the public.

Records and revocation

AURA maintains the nomination evidence, committee recommendation, board resolution, conferral date, and certificate number. The board may revoke an honor obtained through false information, serious misconduct, or misleading use of the title.

Regulatory status

AURA will confer an honorary degree only while legally authorized to do so and after confirming the exact title is consistent with applicable Florida requirements. Submission does not create a right to receive an award.
